Course Description
The Astronomy Department at College of Alameda offers Astronomy 1 every semester, usually both in online and face-to-face format.
Introduction to the universe and insight into its mysteries: Development of modern astronomy, light, astronomical instruments, a brief survey of the solar system, the Sun, the stars, novas and supernovas, neutron stars, black holes, galaxies, and cosmology.
Satisfies IGETC area 5A and CSU GE breadth area B1.
Textbooks: The Essential Cosmic Perspective: 8th edition (ISBN-10: 0134446437) is the current edition. Purchase it at the CoA bookstore or at a bookstore near you. The copies of current edition is on reserve at the library. The 7th or 6th edition is also acceptable, but please check with the instructor for earlier editions.
