In solidarity: Important events and resources for our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Students
Dear College of Alameda Family,
Unfortunately, the pervasive racist violence against Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) continues. This is very sad and disheartening. Such actions are antithetical to our values as a community here at CoA.
On the evening of Tuesday, March 16, 2021, eight innocent people were killed in an act of senseless violence in Atlanta, Georgia, claiming the lives of six Asian American women. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of these victims and also to all who are suffering from the aftermath of this horrific event.
I want to affirm that CoA stands in solidarity with our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) students, colleagues, and community members in strongly condemning all acts of violence and racism, and that we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our AAPI students, faculty, staff, and community members. Furthermore, CoA stands against ALL hate, racism, discrimination, or violence against any group, and will not tolerate it in any form.
I applaud our College faculty and staff members who are working hard to provide our AAPI students with important resources to help them navigate these difficult times. You too can help make a difference by sharing these resources with students and other members of the community that might benefit from these resources.
Next week, Student Services will be holding two virtual events titled “Standing in Solidarity with Asian American and Pacific Islander Communities.” These special events will focus on building community and sharing thoughts in response to the recent mass shooting and ongoing hate crimes, and will take place by Zoom on Monday, March 22, 2021, and Thursday, March 25, 2021, from noon to 1 p.m., at: https://zoom.us/j/9072895579
