Federal Pell Grant

**Pell Grant Change: Beginning Fall 2012, students are now limited to 12 semesters (or 600%) of Pell Grant Eligibility during their lifetime. This change affects all students regardless of when or where they received their first Pell Grant. Students that have already used 600% of their Pell Grant eligibility will no longer be eligible to receive a Pell Grant starting Fall 2012. **

Students are automatically considered for a Federal Pell Grant when they file the FAFSA application. The Federal Pell Grant is money that a student does not need to repay. The student must meet the minimum eligibility requirements. Pell grants range from $757 to $6,345 for the 2020-2021 academic year at College of Alameda.

The enrollment status of the student, i.e. full time, three-quarter time, half time or less than half time will have a proportional effect on the amount of money a student will receive.  For purposes of financial aid, enrollment status is defined as outlined in the table below.

Enrollment Number of Units
Full-Time 12 or more
¾ Time 9 – 11.5
½ Time 6 – 8.5
< ½ Time 5.5 or less
