Automotive Technology
Certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) as a Master Level program, the Automotive Technology curriculum is designed to prepare you for employment as apprentice auto mechanics or to allow you to continue toward a Baccalaureate degree in other advanced schools of technology in preparation for future management and teaching careers.
In this course, you’ll learn safety techniques, trade ethics, use of hand and power tools, theory, and repair and testing of automobiles and their components. Special emphasis will be placed on the diagnosis and repair of electronic and computer systems in late model automobiles. You will also learn to communicate effectively and apply critical thinking and problem solving skills in the process of diagnosing and repairing vehicles.
- Meet standards as a results of NATEF program certification and evaluation process.
- Using Toyota database and standards, student will graduate from T-TEN program as a full-time Toyota technician working at a dealership.
- Student will successfully gain and keep employment in the automotive field.
- Be ‘lifelong learners’ in the field of automotive technology, keeping up with changes in vehicles, in diagnostics and in repair procedures through a commitment to continual learning and training.
- Communicate effectively with customers, supervisors and co-workers.
- Apply critical thinking and problem solving skills in the process of diagnosing and repairing vehicles.
- Competently perform industry standard automotive repair procedures, using the proper tools, procedures, and diagnostic techniques, as specified in the NATEF program certification process.
To earn an Associate in Science (AS) or a Certificate of Achievement, most ATECH programs require the same core courses to be completed in the first semester. The required core courses are:
ATECH 21 – Transportation Technology Principles – 4 units
ATECH 22 – Introduction to Auto Mechanics – 4 units
BUS 208* – Communication Skills for Technicians – 3 units
MATH 225* – Math for Technicians – 3 units
After completion of the first semester, you will be able to take courses that apply to your specialty, whether that is Chassis and Drivetrain, Engine Repair Specialist, etc.
