Who We Are
Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) is a program designed to provide academic support and above-and-beyond services to help students reach their academic goal. Students enrolled in the EOPS program demonstrate that they have educational, economic, social, cultural, or language problems that interfere with their educational careers.

Our Mission: EOPS/CARE/CalWORKs provides above and beyond academic and career counseling that serves the vulnerable and underrepresented students at College of Alameda. Faculty and staff strive to provide culturally relevant and transformative experiences that support students’ goals and learning outcomes. We lean of the values of equity and social justice that is in direct correlation with the civil rights movement.
Our Services
Many students learn about EOPS because we offer book grant services to eligible students, but EOPS is a lot more than a book program. EOPS offers many services to help you succeed in your academic goals.
FAQs
In order to be eligible for the EOPS program you must:
- Be a California resident
- Be enrolled in at least 12 units (full time) with 9 units at College of Alameda
- Have less than 70 degree applicable credit coursework from Peralta or any other higher education institutions
- Qualify to receive a California College Promise Grant (CCPG/formerly known as the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver)
- Have an educational disadvantage
Eligibility & requirements for the CARE program are as follows:
- Be an EOPS student
- Be a CalWORKs or TANF/AFDC participant (including those who are only receiving benefits for their children)
- Have at least one child 14 years of age or younger
- Be a single head of household
In order to apply for the EOPS program you must complete:
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California College Promise Grant (CCPG/formerly known as the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver)
- Be enrolled in at least 12 units (full time) with 9 units at College of Alameda
- Complete an online College of Alameda EOPS Application
- Once these 3 steps are completed you will receive notification of your application status. If approved, you will be directed to an EOPS orientation.
A student may be considered educationally disadvantaged if you meet one of the following criteria:
- Did not graduate from high school, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or obtain the General Education Diploma (GED)
- Graduated from high school with a GPA of 2.49 or below
- Does not qualify for the minimum level English or Mathematics course work required for an Associate degree
- Was previously enrolled in remedial education courses
- Is the first in his/her family to attend college
- Is a foreign born resident with language difficulty
- Is a foster youth, a former foster youth, or ward of the court
- Meets other criteria considered relevant by the Program Director
